THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO CARE FOR YOUR SKIN IN 30, 40 & BEYOND

As we go through different stages of our lives, our skin has different needs and requirements, but many people have been following the same skincare routine since their teens, with little or no adjustments.

While your skin type will dictate your routine, understanding your skin's needs at different stages of life will help you ensure you're providing it with everything it needs to be healthy, strong and radiant. Read on to discover the complete guide to caring for your skin in your 30s, 40s and beyond, and how to create the perfect skincare routine for your age...

The focus of your skin care routine at this age should be on stimulating collagen production, reducing pigmentation and improving hydration.

SKIN CARE FROM 30...

By the time you reach your early 30s, collagen production has begun to slow down. At this stage, fine lines may become visible, especially on the forehead and around the eyes. You may now be starting to see the effects of direct sun exposure in your younger days, with some pigmentation beginning to appear in your 30s.

The focus of your skincare routine at this age should be to stimulate collagen production, reduce pigmentation and improve hydration. After 30, you'll notice that the skin, especially around the eyes, starts to get thinner. This isn't bad news though, as this is the perfect age to really step up your skincare routine and ensure that your skin looks just as good in your 30s as it did in your 20s, just with fewer blemishes.

The key to slowing down the aging process is to keep your skin well hydrated, which makes a good moisturizer and night cream essential. Look for moisturizers that contain hyaluronic acid, as this will help your skin retain moisture. Also, apply an eye cream, as this is where the signs of aging will show up first. Try the Eye Cream Rose Renew , to strengthen collagen and repair fine lines.

Consider applying a vitamin A serum. Strong vitamin A will work wonders, but use must be introduced slowly. Most importantly, make sure to use a sunscreen daily, as vitamin A increases UV sensitivity. Vitamin A is best used in the evening. Try a moisturizer with rosehip oil, which is rich in vitamin A. Also, consider applying a serum with vitamin C in the morning to repair damaged skin cells and reduce pigmentation.

You may still get acne breakouts even after you are over 30. To get this under control, there is no way around a daily deep cleansing. Try this Double Cleanse Duo, to remove all traces of makeup, oil, dirt and impurities from the skin morning and night. Double cleansing is a must to deeply cleanse pores and limit breakouts.

SKIN CARE FROM 40...

In your 40s, everything that started in your 30s intensifies. Collagen and elastin continue to decline and your skin has a harder time retaining moisture, leaving it dry and sensitive. As you mature, skin care becomes more and more important, not only to ensure you feel good about how you look, but also to keep your skin healthy.

At this stage, it is essential to strengthen the collagen in your skin to avoid the sagging appearance that is synonymous with aging. Try applying an anti-aging serum in the morning or evening. Look for a product that brings many benefits to your skin, like our  Rose Renew Anti Ageing Serum. With a focus on improving both elasticity and collagen, it also promotes an even skin tone and makes the skin softer and brighter.

Vitamin C and A are still important at this age, perhaps even more so than in your 30s. Be sure to include them in your daily skincare routine. Try our Rose Renew Face Cream for your daily dose of vitamin C. Regular exfoliation is also important after 40. The aging process causes the skin to become dull and pores to become more prominent. Improving skin cell turnover can help to manage this. Try a gentle exfoliation three to four times a week to improve skin texture and patchy skin tone.

After 40, breakouts are less of a concern. Instead, you may discover that your skin is drier than it was when you were 30+, so avoid cleansers that strip the oil from your skin. A good cleansing routine is still a must, but now it's time to focus on preserving the skin's natural moisturizing oils rather than trying to reduce spots.

If you often find your skin a little dull, brighten your complexion by exfoliating twice a week as part of your routine

SKIN CARE AT 50 AND OVER..

You can still have great skin in your 50s and beyond. This is the age when the focus definitely shifts to anti-aging and hydration. Many women start to enter menopause at age 50, which means major hormonal changes. Menopause causes a sharp drop in estrogen, which helps maintain the dermal barrier function. This means that the skin's ability to retain water decreases and focusing on hydration becomes more important as the skin is more prone to dryness. This is further compounded by the fact that the skin also reduces oil production as we age.

However, a good skincare routine can help counteract these effects. We recommend layering products for those over 50 and beyond, using both serums and rich moisturizers to encourage your skin to absorb essential nutrients and moisture. Apply your favorite serum both morning and night. Opt for a lighter moisturizer during the day and a richer night cream at night. Always use both on your well-cleansed skin, but focus on a natural cleanser that won't strip your skin of moisture.

Dull skin can also be a problem for this age group. If you often find your skin a little dull, brighten up your complexion by exfoliating twice a week as part of your routine.

In the morning, we recommend using the Rose Renew Face Cream after the Rose Renew Anti-Ageing Serum. In the evening, try a richer oil, e.g. Rose Renew Facial Oil , followed by a night cream. If you are looking for a natural cleanser that moisturizes the skin instead of drying it out, try the  Rose and Cupuaçu Enzyme Cleanser . Its gentle cleansing formula melts away makeup, dirt and pollutants while moisturizing the skin with rosehip seed oil to leave it soft and supple. It also restores the skin's elasticity and natural moisture levels.

Establishing and maintaining a great skincare routine in your 30s and 40s will help your skin look younger for longer. Focus on products full of natural and nourishing ingredients, always keeping your skin type in mind.
