6 tips for switching to cruelty-free skin care

At Baie Botanique, we are proud that we do not test any of our products or ingredients on animals. There are many people who would prefer to use only cruelty-free cosmetics, but they imagine the change to be very difficult and do not know how to take the first step. Admittedly, it can take a while to find your way through the jungle of vague statements from manufacturers and the various certificates. We will help you make the switch to cosmetics that are not tested on animals - of course, this includes both make-up and skin care products.

BRAND RESEARCH

First, you should take a close look at the products you use: Find out which products have been tested on animals and which have not. It is important to distinguish whether only the products themselves or all of the ingredients are not tested on animals. There are many detailed lists online that provide you with information on this.

You can also find cosmetic brands that consciously avoid animal testing on the PETA website.

GRADUALLY CHANGE YOUR PRODUCTS

Your skin can benefit from the gentle introduction of new products

You'll probably find that some of the products or ingredients you use have been tested on animals. Don't throw them away immediately; use them up and then replace them with cruelty-free products. Throwing half-full products in the trash isn't particularly eco-friendly, so the environment will thank you for making the transition slowly. Even if you've been using the same products for a long time, your skin can benefit from introducing new products gently, especially if you have sensitive skin.

FOLLOW THE BUNNY

Products that are not tested on animals are marked with a bunny symbol. So when buying cosmetics, look for this symbol to find out whether the item has been tested on animals. Some products also have a written note such as "not tested on animals". The wording "This product has not been tested on animals" does not say whether the same applies to the ingredients.

LOOK FOR THE PARENT COMPANY

Unfortunately, just because a brand or product itself does not conduct animal testing does not mean that the same applies to the parent company. Gemima from The Lovely Witches explains in her blog everything about animal testing and parent companies (English).

DON'T FORGET THE TOOTHPASTE

If you want to banish animal-tested skin care and cosmetic products from your life, you should not forget about essentials such as toothpaste, deodorant and mouthwash. Here too, it is advisable to do thorough research before your next purchase.

BLOGS ON THE TOPIC OF CRUELTY-FREE PRODUCTS

If the change seems difficult, remember: you don't have to go through it alone. There are many blogs and websites that provide useful tips and information on the subject of cruelty-free beauty products. In German-speaking countries, for example, there are , Once Upon A Cream and the Vegan Beauty Blog . The English-language sites include The Lovely Witches , Logical Harmony and The Leaping Bunny . Take your time and relax to browse these pages, learn about the topic and read how others have made the switch.
