How does instant payment via direct bank transfer with Klarna work?

  1. You choose your country and your bank.
  2. Log in with your online banking details. The data will be sent to your bank in encrypted form.
  3. Some banks will send you an additional confirmation PIN to your smartphone, which you must use once to confirm your transaction.
  4. As soon as the bank transfer is successful, the merchant receives a confirmation and immediately places the order.

How does instant payment by credit card work with Klarna?

  1. When making your purchase, select Pay Now at the checkout.
  2. Select credit card as payment method.
  3. Enter your credit card details as usual and the money will be automatically debited from your card.

How does immediate payment by direct debit work with Klarna?

  1. When making your purchase, select Pay Now at the checkout.
  2. Select direct debit as your payment method.
  3. Select your bank and log in. The money will be automatically debited from your account a few days later.
  4. Klarna remembers your bank details so that you can pay even faster with one click on your next purchase. Absolutely safe and smooth!
SCA (strong customer authentication) is a new European requirement created to make online payments more secure. It means that when you make a payment in the EU, additional levels of authentication are required at the time of the transaction. SCA is based on the use of two or more of the following elements - categorised as knowledge, ownership and inherence: Something only the user knows (e.g. password, code, personal identification number). Something only the user has (e.g. token, smart card, mobile phone). Something the user is (e.g. biometric features such as a fingerprint).
What is PSD2
The Second EU Payment Services Directive (PSD2) will make online payments more secure from September 14th, as it requires a stronger customer authentication procedure (SCA). From this point on, you will have to confirm your payments at an online shop with an additional factor (two-factor authentication). For example, with a fingerprint in your bank's online banking app or an additional TAN.
