Fünf einfache Wege, um Mutter Erde helfen zu könne

Five simple ways to help Mother Earth

While the general understanding of how our actions affect our planet is improving, there is still a long way to go. The way we live as individuals can make a difference, and the more each of us tries to make simple changes to our lifestyle, the more our environmental footprint will decrease. What you do makes a difference, and it is never too late to make a change.

Whatever your motivation to live a more sustainable lifestyle, here are five simple ways you can help Mother Earth…

Replace chemicals

The chemicals we use end up in our water supply, which negatively impacts plant life and can be harmful to animals. Consider replacing the chemicals you use at home with natural alternatives. There are several natural alternatives for cleaning products available commercially, or you can even make your own. These are often just as effective as the harsh chemical-laced alternatives. The same goes for all beauty products that end up down the drain. Plastic microbeads found in scrubs and exfoliating products are now banned. However, you can make further improvements by using facial and body cleansers that are all-natural.

Reduce, reuse and recycle

Recycle wherever you can, but even better is to reduce consumption. Recycling is a good start, and of course we can't completely limit our consumption. Recycle what you can, sell or donate unused items to keep them out of landfill and reduce the urge to buy new. Limit your new purchases wherever possible and buy used instead.

Eating sustainably
Did you know that around 25% of greenhouse gas emissions come from large-scale food production? By choosing a sustainable diet, you can help reduce demand for it. The ideal is to buy food from farmers who are committed to preserving natural resources. But buying from local farmers also helps, as does eating foods of natural origin instead of processed foods.

Reduce plastic consumption

Although awareness has increased about the negative impact of plastic use on our planet, people around the world still buy an average of one million plastic water bottles every minute and use five trillion single-use plastic bags every year. Only 9% of plastic is recycled! As a first step, invest in reusable cloth bags, drink tap water or make your own sodas at home. If you want to go a step further, look at all the products you use at home that come in plastic containers. Then think about how you can use plastic-free alternatives.

Plant a tree

If we planted an additional 2.5 billion hectares of forest worldwide, we could limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2050. That sounds like a simple solution, but that's a lot of trees. But if just a few of us planted one or two trees, this change would be doable.

Simply starting with one of the steps above will help you develop a more sustainable lifestyle over time.
