Top tips for a natural and healthy upbringing of your children

Dealing with modern life on our planet can feel like a juggling act. While there is a lot of good in everyday life, there are also a lot of pollutants and chemicals, many of which are known to be bad for our health. How do you deal with all of this when raising children, and what can you do to feed your children nature-based food and avoid many of the man-made substances in the world?

Start early…

Healthy habits are formed in the earliest stages of life, so start them when you feel the time is right. That's not to say you can't make positive changes when your children are older, but if you have the opportunity to encourage your children to live a natural lifestyle from the start, why not go that route?

Studies show that our relationship with food begins very early in life. This can be as early as 6 months of age, the age when most parents want to start weaning. Baby-led weaning is the best way to introduce solid foods into your child's diet. This allows babies to decide for themselves how much they want to eat, rather than being told from an early age to eat as much as they can

Make sure you feed a diet that consists of only natural foods and is rich in whole foods such as fruits and vegetables, grains and healthy natural fats. Avoid processed foods and anything that contains sugar to set your child up for healthy eating habits from the start. This will greatly benefit your child later in life as it will reduce their chances of developing obesity and diabetes, as well as eating disorders and general difficulties with food.

Arouse curiosity…

Curiosity and creativity don't have to involve plastic toys, cartoons or iPads. There's a lot to explore in the world, and it's all on our doorstep! Encourage your children to be curious about the world and the things in it by spending as much time exploring as possible. It's true that fresh air, sunshine and exercise are good for all of us, including our children, so why not focus daily activities on these elements?

As your children get older, they will feel more comfortable being outdoors than in front of the television, provided you encourage them to be outside and exercise from a young age.

Going for walks, playing in the garden, going on holiday to the seaside, eating lunch outside, looking for birds, bugs and butterflies, romping around on hills, searching in rock pools, playing hide and seek behind trees… there are endless possibilities for having fun outside.

Make your selection exciting…

A sticking point that many parents face is the fact that things in nature are not necessarily exciting for children, whereas products created to attract little ones' attention and increase sales are.

Candy, chips, kids' cereal, plastic toys, cartoons and everything else we think kids love are designed to be as exciting as possible for kids. Bright colors, music and exciting commercials attract kids, so it can be difficult to separate your child from these things.

If you choose to give your child an apple instead of candy or take him to the beach instead of Disney World, your child may feel betrayed when he sees peers doing the very things you don't want to do.

Make sure your decisions are exciting. Lots of positive vibes, cheerful words and a few tricks will help your child to get excited about the things in their life that should make them excited and happy.

Remember that it is also important to lead by example. As you raise your child to live a natural and healthy lifestyle, you should also cultivate that lifestyle and share the same values.

The modern child can grow up happy and healthy while maintaining a natural lifestyle. This approach offers enormous benefits, both in childhood and adulthood. It is worth considering raising children naturally, especially if you are also enthusiastic about a natural lifestyle.
